The wind beneath my leaf….

May 8, 2011

Every year, Mother’s Day rolls around and with it,  the question of what I would like for Mother’s Day.  My first response is always,”All I want is to spend the day with my two favorite people, my husband and daughter!  That’s the correct response, right?

If I stop for second though, what do I think most mothers would really like?  For most of us it isn’t the latest gucci purse, although nice, or the sparkly bling which is again very nice or even a day at the spa.  What I think we all need, be it working mothers, stay-at-home mothers, single mothers, married mothers, mothers of one as well as mothers of five is quite simply…time.

Personally, I’m not even going to be picky as to what kind of time. Time to myself is of course, always welcomed and equally wonderful, but I would be just as happy with a few more hours added to my day – although I  must add that during these “gifted” hours the rest of the world will be required to come to a halt!  What would I do with that time?  A few “to-do’s” easily spring to mind, mostly during my runs when I tend to think most clearly.  My mind can quickly bounce from one thing to another…from needing to send some WAY overdue thank you notes to needing to go through the closets and clean out old winter clothes that haven’t been worn…well since we moved to Austin from NYC almost 6 years ago.  I have to wonder that if under all the piles of papers that have mysteriously multiplied exponentially, I might still have a desk… Or about how we are scheduled to move in two, yes TWO weeks and then it  will occur to me that  perhaps I should begin packing.  I can admit though that it is tempting to use the time to catch up on the daily laundry, cleaning, organizing or even better yet, devising new ways to be super-organized for the coming week and  finally, finally turning over that new leaf, that up until now, has blown in the wind, but NEVER really turned over!

Yes, time flies when you are having fun, but also when you have to plan the fun, go out and purchase the necessary objects for fun, supervise the fun, discipline the fun, clean up after the fun and then put the fun to bed!  All that being true as it may, If I am completely honest with myself what I really want or Mother’s Day is to slow the clock, just a bit and spend the day with my two favorite people!  That is the correct response…

Happy Mother’s Day to my friends, customers, and fellow mothers! Take some time for yourself today – you deserve a delish’us life!

I have to admit that the idea of a writing a blog has always interested me, however the time commitment was a bit daunting and until now, kept me from beginning.  As a small business owner, a wife and the mother of a teenage daughter, my time is somewhat limited. OK, that’s a lie – my time is extremely limited and those who know me, I ‘m sure will call me crazy for adding anything to my plate.  That being said, the last time I wrote anything since college was my business plan for Delish. So, if you are looking for a blog that is going to move you to tears or bring you clarity in your own life, you should x out of this blog asap.  This blog is dedicated to all that inspires me – business, family, design and… baked goods!  I may post something everyday, I may not… As with everything else in my life, I am simply going to see where the wind blows me.
